Rocky Mountain National Park

Without an idea of where to stay to get close to this national park while on the westward journey, a pull-up-the-map-and-point system was put into place. Estes Park, CO? Have we heard anything about this place or campgrounds in the area? Nope! Well, a reservation at a place named Elk Meadow Lodge & RV Resort can't be bad. Maybe, we thought, we'll even see an elk. She said, "What d' ya think?".  He said, "Book it!".

Here we go!!

Almost there and so ready to park it!
If the resort's appeal is even close to the beauty seen on this drive, we're in for a treat!!

..........?????

Here it is.

We parked. We looked at our environment in amazement! Score!! This was taken from our campsite as soon as the engine was beginning to rest.

Once settled in, the question at hand was "Can we take a ride at dusk to, hopefully, spot an elk?".

With that question barely off of the lips, we looked out of the window to see this😯

Although we probably could have called it good after being visited by these fabulous animals, we were headed next to Rocky Mountain National Park.

We were about to realize another fantastic bonus. We were literally at the entrance to the park.

Time to make our way around stunning Sprague Lake! But, once Cannon spotted snow, that plan was on hold.

After the gentle stroll around this lake (except for nearly being knocked over by the wind), we were in for something quite different as we accepted the challenge to pursue the snowy hike to frozen Nymph Lake. Can you say, "You didn't know what you were getting into"?

The sloshy and very slippery snow trail above is the terrain to hike on the entire half mile to the lake. There were many tense "Am I going to lose my footing and fall down, down, down?" moments involved.

Oh, and once there, enjoy the beauty, but you must also hike it back😒

With Sprague and Nymph under our belts, the couple hundred feet to Bear Lake was a cinch.

Let's throw in some scenery and wildlife views before leaving the park.

As if this wasn't enough for one day, back at the campground, these fellas came to say goodbye.

Maybe this was a little too close!
Might have been pushing limits a bit.

Stay tuned for the rest of our Spring '24 national park trek😊
