Mount Vernon

Sitting on the bank of the Potomac River in Virginia, Mount Vernon is a beautiful and majestic symbol of American history that draws about one million guests each year.

It was purchased in 1858 by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association to ensure its preservation and is maintained to this day by the same. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960.  For the most part, the rooms have been restored to allow visitors an opportunity to experience it the same way George Washington himself did in the 1700's. Some rooms contain actual items such as portraits and furniture owned by the Washingtons.

Although every room inside is amazing,
the journey is not complete without a walk on the grounds our first president lived daily life. Venturing here provides a close view of what his eyes saw as he worked, planned, and walked about.

This is the amazing view of the Potomac River that George and Martha Washington would have taken in as they enjoyed time on the porch.

We took a moment at the final resting place after spending several hours immersed in the study of the life of President George Washington. We left with a new sense of appreciation for the country we call home and the many individuals who made it possible.
