Not much needs to be said when bringing these next images to you. Most will recognize what we have included.  Our day spent in Washington, D.C. was intriguing. It was awesome, and it was wearying. To say it is a city rich in history is quite the understatement.  To pass the opportunity up as we made our way through the area was not an option. Join us as we remember our day in the capital city. For some, it will be a glimpse into a city they haven't yet visited. Others will be reminded of their own time here.                              

Shenandoah National Park This one offers over 200,000 acres of protected lands in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.  It was established in 1935 and draws well over a million visitors every year who enter the park through one of its four entrances. The most northern of these entrance stations is Front Royal at Mile 0. Thornton Gap is at Mile 31.5.  At Mile 65.5 you can enter through the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station. And, finally, find, at Mile 104.6, the entrance known as Rockfish Gap.  We entered the park through the Front Royal Entrance Station 70 miles west of Washington, D.C. This is the one most used of the four. The views were breathtaking. We enjoyed the changes in temperature as we rode to higher elevations then coasted downward. We didn't hike at all as we visited Shenandoah, but that didn't stop us from enjoying every mile!   Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk the streets of the town we saw so much of through the innocent eyes of Opie Taylor?  It seemed so wholesome and refreshing. The song whistled during the opening of The Andy Griffith Show invites us to this sweet and exciting place.  Although Mayberry is not a real town, it can be visited by going to Mount Airy, NC, which heavily influenced its creation and is Andy Griffith's actual hometown. Here you can be transported to another place and time as you walk past Wally's Service Station, Snappy Lunch, Floyd's Barber Shop, and the Mayberry Courthouse. Just three blocks away, tour the Andy Griffith Museum loaded with memorabilia including a rocking chair made by his father, a 1962 wristwatch gifted by Andy himself, a display dedicated to Betty Lynn (Barney Fife's girlfriend, Thelma Lou, in the show), and so much more.  And don't forget about Andy's childhood home also within walking distance.
