Exploring Some of Quebec's Beauty in And Around Parc de la Gorge

  Before arriving at our destination, we were treated to views like this. The Balsams Dixville Notch New Hampshire Dixville Notch, in Coos County, New Hampshire, is about 20 miles south of Quebec. Once across the border and in Coaticook to venture into the park, this sign was pretty cool to see.  That'll definitely catch the eye of someone who hasn't wandered out of the country much yet!  Now it was time to hike around the park including braving a walk on the longest suspended footbridge in North America😐 Let's do this! Maine Mineral & Gem Museum

  We had only been in Bethel a few days when we noticed something different and quite shiny. As we walked about, we couldn't help but see that the ground was sort of twinkling. We picked up piece after piece of this stuff that looked like gleaming sheets of super thin plastic. We were educated and spurred on to discover more as we became rockhounds at The Sluice here in the campground.  This shiny matter under our feet and covering our shoes like glitter is a flaky rock known as Mica. It is ground down and added to many common products including cosmetics because of its gorgeous shimmer. It took a little while to get past the fact that it would be on everything and embrace the glitter.  As we dug  into the topic further, we learned about Maine's place in gemstone history. It is a world-famous spot for appreciating and studying gems and lays claim to the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum.
