Flume Gorge + Floating A Tube Down the Androscoggin

Image
This natural gorge is found at the base of Mount Liberty in New Hampshire's Franconia Notch State Park. It is known locally simply as The Flume and boasts granite walls rising up to 90 feet high. Considering the walls are 12 to 20 feet apart, walking the 2 mile loop trail is a hike like no other. There are many gorgeous views to indulge in along the way. Wide gravel paths, rushing waterfalls, and beautiful staircases help to make this a very pleasant trek through one of New Hampshire's breathtaking attractions. 🐻Bear Cave🐻 Another Androscoggin Adventure Although we had enjoyed floating down the river a few times, we now had to experience it while riding in a tube. We may have enjoyed this mode of transportation the mostπŸ˜€ Getting ready to hit the water! Safety first!! Staying put in the tube the entire time is not acceptable. Time to jump out and enjoy the water! 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

Enjoying Maine in Spite of the Rain

Image
According to the locals, the extremely wet weather is not the usual pattern this time of year. A little rain never hurt, but this is over the top! We even had to evacuate our site for a few hours this week. Thankfully, it wasn't required that we move very far. We parked on a different area offering higher ground in the campground. The river was carefully monitored to make sure it was wise to move back to our site before we got the official word. It made for an interesting day for everyone living, camping, and working here. It is such a blessing to have a dedicated and thorough couple in charge and so many others working together to make everything run smoothly.   Although an awful lot of rain has been falling, there have been opportunities to grab moments to see more of what is around us here in Bethel.  One thing we just had to do again was make our way back across the Burma bridge shown above. After all, it is right here in the campground. We had no urge to step off and onto th

Into the Thick of It on Hastings Island

This bridge, swaying under our feet and carrying us clear across the Androscoggin River, proved to be a quest unlike any other. It is definitely one to remember and tackle again another day.   Exhilarating & Breathtaking! Hastings Island, on the other end of the bridge, while absolutely lush and gorgeous, is not our favorite part of the adventure. For some it may be just the hike they're looking for, but it was a bit too wild and untamed for us. If you don't mind making your bug spray work overtime and enjoy an off-the-beaten-path kind of hike, don't miss this one. Amazing fern and river views are part of what your eyes will feast on. It honestly is a walk through a beautiful forest, so it's understandable that, in such a natural environment, you must expect everything that comes along.  As the eyes take the above scenes in, it's hard to imagine not wanting to see it all againπŸ˜•in spite of any bugs or plants not exactly exciting to encounter.
