St Simons Island

Image
Drive southward from Savannah for about an hour and a half to find a hidden jewel. For us, coming from Waycross, it was a little more than an hour's drive eastward to indulge in some of the 18 square miles known as St Simons Island. We were thrilled to spend time on yet another of this state's barrier islands. What a spectacular treat!! We arrived not knowing what a great time the rest of this day would bring. Playing at Neptune Park and delighting in breathtaking views of the ocean and St Simons Island Lighthouse was a fantastic start. Being at such an amazing place at sunset provided even more beauty and excitement while this  very friendly and photogenic pelican posed to enhance our evening. Come with us as we explore St Simons Island. Who would have imagined Georgia had so much to offer? Find Cannon hidden in the picture above a little to the left of center😀 As the sun sets, we say goodbye ....until next time🌞

Jekyll Island, GA

Image
This popular tourist destination in Southern Georgia is one of the state's four barrier islands.   As we visited the island, we set our sights on walks on stunning Driftwood Beach and the Horton House ruins. After lingering a while on a captivating beach, we drove to this historic site displaying the oldest tabby ruins in the state of Georgia. Horton House  We investigated the alluring remains of the home before stepping onto the trail leading to Horton Pond.  As I snapped this next shot of Cannon, he was pointing and informing us of the sight he was taking in. I can't say I immediately believed there was an alligator so close by.  As I took a look, I saw this sunbathing "beauty" then his buddy here giving us a nice view of himself in the pond. With the water so clear, we were certainly treated to a natural and serene aquatic life  view. Thanks for sitting a while to join us in our day on fabulous Jekyll Island😊

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens

Before we presented our tickets and strolled through the entrance gate, we knew something special was going on. Considering our visit fell in late November, we were treated to extra fun and beauty as this zoo was in full decoration mode! Colors of the Wild is a lantern experience  featuring more than 70 displays throughout the park. We took advantage of the many extra photo opportunities surrounding us. Seeing this fascinating 411-pound Aldabra tortoise was a reminder that we would see amazing animals in addition to the gorgeous decorations😏  Let's pull up the map next to keep it all in perspective, shall we?😉 Being frightened by the sounds coming from this beast behind and above us as we focused on the playful otters across the way definitely shook us up. Having never been to this particular zoo before, we certainly did not expect the tiger to be creeping above us! Hearing how intensely quiet everyone suddenly became, it could be assumed that we were not the only ones wonderin
